Babbitt Conservation Club

The Babbitt Conservation Club is a group of folks who are interested in shooting, hunting, and conservation who has regular meetings and fun events. Our purpose is to give back to the environment and to the communities where we exist. One of our community activities is sponsoring the Youth Firearms Training classes. Meetings are the second Tuesday of the month April through October at 7:00 p.m. at the rifle range. Trap shooting Tuesday nights at 5:00 p.m. from June through September.

Bear Head Lake State Park

Located just south of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, the park shares a similar wilderness quality: pristine lakes, black bears, nesting eagles, wolves and moose. Stands of white and red pine trees tower over the birch, aspen and fir trees. Explore miles of shoreline by canoe. Swim at the beach, picnic in the shelter building, or fish for walleye, bass, crappies or trout. Trails in the park link-up with the Taconite State Trail and offer snowmobilers, skiers and hikers plenty to enjoy. Rent a three-bedroom guest house or camper cabin any season of the year.

Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park

Tour the historic underground mine or high energy physics lab, take a boat out or cast a line on Lake Vermilion, or hike through acres of old growth pine forest. The addition of nearly 3000 acres and five miles of Lake Vermilion shoreline in 2010 will no doubt add even more opportunities to experience the wonders of northern Minnesota.
